Winter (they / them)

Midlands Young Advisor (2022)

Hi, I’m Winter. I joined the Young Advisors in 2022, after struggling with anxiety, depression, other mental health conditions and grappling with my new diagnosis of autism earlier that year.

I am currently at university, studying to be a paramedic, and, out of a passion to be a part of the system that let me down when I needed it, I decided to join the Young Advisors alongside my studies. As a part of the team, one of my proudest achievements was co-hosting the NHS National Conference in London in 2023. It really challenged me to get out of my comfort zone, but I was able to push myself and I really enjoyed it in the end. The Young Advisors have shown me how much of a difference young people’s voices can make, and being part of such an incredible group of young people has empowered me to make changes in my personal life too.

“The Young Advisors have shown me how much of a difference young people’s voices can make.”

Outside my role as a Young Advisor and student paramedic, I also volunteer for a charity which helps vulnerable people on the streets of my town at the weekends, which I find really rewarding as I get to use my lived experience with mental health difficulties to help others.
