The Let’s Get Mental Conference
Since the Young Advisors formed in 2017, we have held a conference every year, which we organise and run ourselves. This is an integral part of our work since it allows us young people to present on the topics that we feel are the most pertinent within CYP mental health. Our conference caters to professionals and young people alike; everyone can take something away, be that information or merch!
Our Let’s Get Mental conferences are vibrant places where we Young Advisors present alongside external presenters to exchange a full wealth of experience and perspectives. We aim to represent every voice to our fullest capacity.
Want to take part in our 2026 conference?
Every year, the Young Advisors organise the Let’s Get Mental conference, where young people and professionals share ideas, experiences and solutions around children and young people’s mental health.
We’re beginning to plan the 2026 event and are inviting expressions of interest from potential presenters and stallholders. If you’d like to share your work, your ideas, or your lived experience, we’d love to hear from you.
If you’d simply like to come along, keep checking this page or follow us on LinkedIn for updates about the event.

The day featured powerful presentations unpacking common misconceptions about mental health, the potential of social media to support wellbeing, and a deep dive into current service gaps – with ideas for how things could work differently.

Supporting Our Networks
In 2024, we hosted the conference ‘Let’s Get Mental: Supporting Our Networks.’ This event focused on recognising the support young people receive throughout their mental health journey. The theme highlighted the importance of creating robust networks to ensure young people have the guidance and resources they need at every stage of their journey.
2023 Let’s Get Mental:
Together
In 2023, we hosted the conference ‘Let’s Get Mental… Together,’ focused on fostering collaboration among everyone involved in supporting young people. This included young people themselves, as well as parents, carers, and professionals. The event emphasized the importance of working collectively to make a difference. The conference was a joint effort between us, Associate Development Solutions, the University of Derby, and the University of Northampton.
2022 Let’s Get Mental:
Mind the Gap!
Our 2022 conference, titled ‘Let’s Get Mental: Mind the Gap,’ centered on addressing gaps in service provisions. The event aimed to shed light on the challenges some individuals face in accessing services and explore ways to bridge these gaps. Key presentations focused on gaps in crisis and emergency services, eating disorder support, education, and transitions between services.
2021 Let’s Get Mental:
The Next Chapter
In 2021, we hosted our third conference, titled ‘Let’s Get Mental: The Next Chapter.’ Despite COVID restrictions, we persisted and the event was moved online. The conference focused on harnessing the wave of innovation sparked by the shared experiences of the pandemic and lockdowns. We placed a spotlight on marginalized groups and emphasized the importance of participation. Discussions underscored the need to continue pushing forward during this era of constant change, with a particular focus on prioritizing young people’s mental health.
2020 Let’s Get Mental:
Again!
We called our second conference ‘Let’s Get Mental…Again’ – commonly referred to as LGM 2.0! This was more focused on mental health within schools, and how things can be improved to provide more support for young people in education who are struggling with their mental health.
2019: In The Beginning…
Our first conference, held in February 2019, was titled ‘Let’s Get Mental.’ The event focused on enhancing mental health services and raising general awareness of mental health issues. As a team, we chose the name ‘Let’s Get Mental’ to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health discussions. The title aimed to make the topic approachable and relatable, encouraging people to take mental health seriously while engaging with it openly and collaboratively.
